Laying our burden down
Matthew 11:28-30 Every day we wake up, we hop in the shower, we drive to work and we get on with it. ‘Is it Friday yet’ - I hear that a lot. And every day we drag our old stuff, our old failures, our old relationships, our old crap around like it is our personal treasure - mine, mine, mine. Our little treasure bag of burdens and reasons why our dreams will never come true that is snuffing the life out of us and the ones we say we love. We are extended this incredible offer and given the key to our prison door and yet we choose not to use it. And for some of us (like me) the key that opens the door, that puts me on the path to the prize required that I first crawl through some pretty vile stuff that I called my life that included giving up my ego and arrogance, giving up ‘not needing’, giving up my being ‘right’ and giving it all to God. So here we all are, wondering how we are to make it and who will help, searching for meaning, struggling through our hopes and fears and for some of us walking through the veils of tears. Here we all are with another day and another opportunity to choose. To choose to accept the invitation to give our burdens to God, to choose to accept the invitation to LIFE, to choose to get busy living.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Psalm 68:19
“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
